the high cost of living in Singapore justified

Is the high cost of living in Singapore justified by the quality of life and services provided?

I have not been to Singapore but I know about it and I have lived for years in Hong Kong which is similar.

First thing first.

Singapore employment income tax is 15% flat.

Yeah. 15%.

Let that sink in. It’s not like your US, Canada, UK, etc where you give your 5 months’ income to the govt. And some companies give 13 months salaries, the extra month salary is given to pay for that exorbitant tax of fifteen percent making your yearly income essentially tax free.

Then, zero capital gain tax.

You read it. Means you sell your property, make money in the stock market, get rich out of some crypto shit, etc govt wants none of it. Every penny goes in your fucking pocket. Your profit is entirely yours. You make 10$ profit or a million, you get to devour it all.

Then Singapore has world class pubic healthcare for its residents.

You give these three things and that country or its service is worth every penny regardless of its cost of living.

Thanks for the vote 👍🏽 I’m born and raised here. Having spoken with many of my Asian friends on their healthcare systems, I have to agree that SG has an outstanding medicare system and it’s for life!😍❤️

Besides healthcare, there are the superb education, public housing and transportation to enjoy.

And safety

Yes. Good education, efficient law enforcement , peace , easy to setup business

It's not first hand until you come to Singapore. That's real life experience. Just like when you have not taste what durian is like, No matter how you cannot describe it. Although HK is quite similar to certain expect but both are different in our own way.

And are you aware the world class health care system of Singapore is f**cking expensive. Not many locals can afford it. Majority would settled for government clinics that make you wait for hours just for an appointment. Booking an appointment, give yourself at least 4 days to a week of waiting period. By the way, polyclinics are not free, they are subsidised. So the locals still have to fork out some money.

This is absolutely untrue, the health care system is highly affordable for citizens. As a Pioneer Generation(PG), I have at least 75% subsidy on most procedures and medical costs. That besides my medical insurance which cover all other costs so basically I pay zero dollars for all my health needs. Medisave can be used to cover my outpatient charges(yes that’s polyclinics of course). As to the best doctors for your care, my niece which had a very rare tumour of the spinal cord, she was treated by the top surgeon of the unit. We were told that during the case conference, that because her case was unique, the case was escalated to the Senior Surgeon, also my wife because of her other medical conditions, ended up being treated by a Senior surgeon, only later when the risks were lower, she was treated by a junior surgeon All costs in government hospital is standard and you don’t pay extra.

Compare that with the private sector. Yes, you can choose your own specified surgeon. But if it turned out that your condition is rare and had risk? If your surgeon felt that he is inadequate and request for a more experienced surgeon, you ended up paying for 2 surgeons taking care for you and pay double as a result. Or if you refused the second surgeon, you actually ended with a poorer quality of care.

Good quality care is always available to citizens and is always affordable, unless citizens opt for private care, then they have to pay market rates.

The main reason was Meritocracy! The million dollar salaried ministers had to get the best price for the services offered. There were not blood sucking corporations standing in the way of getting the best quality of service. Hence the low taxes because the expenditure of securing those services were also low because of the high efficiencies and low cost of securing those services. May these low cost prevail because of high efficiencies like robotics in the future!

Robotics will take your job.

I just came back from Shenzhen. Service robots are everywhere like sweepers, police robots, waitressing robots, etc. The public places are clean and neat. Japan, Singapore, China, etc, are facing depopulation trends unlike India. We need them to do all the low end jobs!

Depopulation will be their demise. And what’s a low level job?

Oh Dear! My good news Gracious me ! Help good Govt best PUBIC. Healthcare.. only Govt in the WORLD doing that I imagine..MADE my Day man….

WATCH your spelling. Dear people..not sure ASK…!! Especially you : Ha. Sandhu..….ha

Having lived in HK too, the healthcare in Singapore is superior to HK. The living space comparison makes Singapore a better choice with one setback, the weather is more pleasant in HK. The best of both worlds is to live in Singapore and enjoy HK weather and food at the right time of the year.

Living space comparison is quite poor in Singapore compared to HK.

I guess you must be mistaken as I have a PR HKID since 1986 and I am a Singaporean. I lived in both places so I have a clearer perspective. I lived in the mid Peak in a 3700 square feet condo and my office was at Lippo Tower. The normal HK citizens lived in less than 600 square feet gross. Our Singapore government flats ranges from 800–1200 square feet net ( which would equal to 15–20 % more compared to HK gross footage)

Our income tax is up to 24% and not 15% flat.

Singapore Income tax Authority, hello

Singapore used to be good value for tax money…not any more…the costs have increased much beyond the incomes…it is now not a place that justifies its costs with services provided.

And free vouchers..!! ❤️

That makes you wonder how Singapore progressed without sucking so much from the people. Not forgetting the country has little to none natural resources that it can rely on and a small population.

I have spoken my piece, he should double check before posting, PUBIC hair is hair around genitals!!

Get a doctor. There is no shame in admitting you need mental health.

You seriously need to relearn Primary English…

How seriously? More than your medical need? Dun fink so.
