List of Republic of Singapore Air Force squadrons

It was established in 1st September,  1968 as the Singapore Air Defence Command (SADC) before renaming to its current name Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) in 1st April 1975. 

In the event of national exigencies or a full-scale war, the RSAF will be the first leading the charge when conflict arises, in combat situations.

4. 111 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force:  "Jaeger" was formed with four Grumman E-2C Hawkeye Airborne Early Warning aircraft in 1987. Based at Tengah Air Base. 4 × G550 CAEW (16th September, 2008–present) as an AEW trainer,  acquired and maintained by ST Engineering (Aerospace) on behalf of RSAF.

8. 120 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force: First formed in 1969, it is the first and oldest RSAF operational squadron in service. The squadron goes by the motto of "Strive To Achieve". "Kestrel" (also known as the "Red Hawks") is a helicopter squadron. Based at Sembawang Air Base.   Since 2006–present, it operates 20 x AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopters. 9. 121 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force :  "Brahminy Kite" with 10 x Fokker 50 (Transport), 8 x Fokker 50 ME2 (Maritime patrol) , 9 × Fokker F50 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA)/Utility Transport Aircraft (UTA) (1993–present); based at Changi Airbase (West).

13. 125 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force : Formed in February 1985, "Puma" squadron goes by the motto of "Swift in Support" with 22 ×  Aérospatiale AS332M Super Puma (1985–present), ?? x Airbus H225M (2021–present). Based at Sembawang Air Base. 

14. 126 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force

15. 127 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force : at Oakey Army Aviation Centre (Australia) with 6 × CH-47D(Training/ Support for army exercises). CH-47SD Chinook . Formed at Sembawang Air Base in 1996, with six newly purchased CH-47D initially, with another ten CH-47SD Chinooks added to the squadron strength by 1999. Training detachment: 

From 1996 until 2018, the squadron maintained a training detachment (Peace Prairie CH-47 Training) at Redmond Taylor AHP in (Grand Prairie, Texas) with six CH-47Ds.

In June 2018, the entire detachment was relocated to Oakey Army Aviation Centre in Queensland, Australia following a decision by the Singaporean Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) to consolidate and enhance the training process between the RSAF and the Singapore Army in Shoalwater Bay training area.

Replacement: On 7 November 2016, a press release by MINDEF was issued after a decision was made to acquire ten new build CH-47Fs to replace the six older D-models which has been in service since 1996. Concurrently, the ten CH-47SDs were to undergo a modernisation process to bring them up to the same standard as the CH-47Fs.

Aircraft operated: 6× CH-47D/10× CH-47SD Chinooks (1996/1999–present)

10× CH-47F Chinooks - ordered in 2016, delivery slated for 2020 to replace the CH-47Ds.

19. 140 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force :  "Osprey" operates twelve F-16 Fighting Falcon of the F-16C/D Block 52 version. Based in Tengah Air Base. First set up in September 1970 with twenty refurbished Hawker Hunters aircraft in July 1970. The Hawker Hunters served faithfully for twenty years, after which they were replaced by the F-16A/Bs in 1990. These were, in turn, replaced by newer F-16C/Ds in 2000 and were subsequently transferred to Royal Thai Air Force the same year. 

Aircraft types operated :

•46× Hawker Hunters (1970–1992)

•8× F-16A/B Fighting Falcons (1990–2004)

•12× F-16C/D Fighting Falcons (2003–present)


20. 141 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force

21. 142 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force:  "Gryphon" is a fighter-bomber squadron based at Paya Lebar Air Base, sister squadron with 145 Squadron flew the A-4S Skyhawk and later, the locally upgraded A-4SU Super Skyhawk. When the A-4SU was retired from active combat service, however, 142 Squadron was disbanded, while the 145 Squadron was retained to operate the newly upgraded F-16Ds from the new air base, Changi Airbase (East), in 2004. F-15SG Eagles arrival. 

Aircraft operated:

•18 x T/A-4SU Super Skyhawks (Fighter-bomber, 1974-2005)[4]

•15 x F-15SG Strike Eagles (2016–present)


22. 143 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force

23. 144 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force : F-5S


24. 145 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force : Since 1st April 1984, "Hornet" is a strike fighter squadron based currently at Changi Airbase (East) which is a new airbase, opened in 2004, to the east of Singapore Changi Airport on reclaimed land. With 20 × F-16D+ Fighting Falcons. Operated •16 × T/A-4SU Super Skyhawks (1984–2004). Now operates • 20 × F-16D+ Fighting Falcons (2004–present).


25. 149 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force: F-15SG Eagles arrival . "Shikra" is a fighter-bomber squadron based at Paya Lebar Air Base. 

•15× F-5S & 1× F-5T Tiger-IIs (1985–2010)

•24× F-15SG Strike Eagles (2010–present)


26. 150 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force : at BA 120 Cazaux Airbase (France) with 12 × Alenia Aermacchi 

M-346 Master. 


27. 160 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force

29. 165 Squadron, Republic of Singapore Air Force : an Air Defence Group squadron of the Air Defence and Operations Command. It currently operates the Surface-to-Air PYthon and DERby - Short Range (SPYDER-SR) ground-based air defence system.

As of 2021, the RSAF uses four air bases domestically, Paya Lebar, Changi, Sembawang, and Tengah, as well as at civilian airport Seletar. 


The RSAF has overseas detachments in various countries, most notably in :-

● Australia = 

• at RAAF Base Pearce (Australia) with 19 × PC-21 (Basic Training)

• at Oakey Army Aviation Centre (Australia) with 6 × CH-47D (Training/Support for army exercises)

● the United States = 

• at Luke Air Force Base (United States) 425 FTS, with 8 × F-16C, 6 × F-16D (at Peace Carvin II F-16 Training)

• at Mountain Home Air Force Base (United States) 428 FTS, with 10 × F-15SG, (at Peace Carvin V F-15 Training)

• at Silverbell Army Heliport (United States) E/1-285th AVN, with 8 × AH-64SG (AH-64SG Training)

● and France = 

• at BA 120 Cazaux Airbase (France) with 12 × Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master. 

● at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base (Thailand) For F-16 Training Purpose with Royal Thai Air Force.


As of 2021, the RSAF has a strength of 8,000 active personnel.

The RSAF celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2018 with the theme "Our Home, Above All".
