Angels are very popular in modern culture. Almost every Christian at some point in time, wonder about what angels really look like, what are they doing every day, and how do they impact our lives.
I’ll try to give you the answers to many curious questions about angels, which many of us have been wondering about all our lives.

1) What are Angels and Why do they Exist?
Angels are one of God’s marvelous creations. They have existed before the time of Adam and Eve, and still exist today.
They are Spirit beings, and do not have physical bodies like we Humans and Animals do.
The word we use today, “Angel”, originates from the Greek word “Aggelos”, which means “Messenger”.
ἄγγελος | aggelos | ang’-el-os
From ἀγγέλλω aggellō; a messenger; especially an “angel”; by implication a pastor: – angel, messenger.
So Why did God create Angels?
The main reason for angels, their main purpose, is to act as messengers from God to humans.
Very few humans have ever spoken directly with God. Most do not have a strong enough spirit connection with God to warrant this.
God’s use of his angels have been noted numerous times in the Bible, in cases such as:
Delivering Messages and Warnings; issuing Proclamations and Interpreting Visions.
Angels Minister to servants of God. They Guide, Instruct and Comfort us.
Another major purpose is to help Fight our Spiritual Battles. They are here to Protect us from the forces of darkness (Satan and his fallen angels).
God also created the angels to worship Him in heaven.
2) Characteristics and Facts about Angels
We have seen so many depictions of Angels in books and media around the world, yet none of us are quite sure of what the look like.
Here are some characteristics and details, coming directly from the Bible, which will help you get a better idea of the nature of angels.
Angels are spirit beings.
Although angels have appeared in the form of having a human figure in many accounts in the Bible, this is not their natural state.
(Hebrews 1:13) But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
(Hebrews 1:14) Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
They are Invisible to us, except for special occasions, when delivering an important message.
(Colossians 1:16) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Angels are Immortal. They are not subject to death like we are.
(Luke 20:36) Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
Therefore, all the angels that existed before Adam and Eve’s creation, still exist today.
Angels are not Divine, neither are they to be Worshiped.
Angel worship is a lot more common than people think. Many people pray directly to angels, asking to be helped out of difficult situations.
Please remember that only God is to be worshiped; no one else, not even Jesus Christ nor the Angels.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, him being our savior; but we pray to our creator, God.
(Revelation 19:10) And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
Angels are not Deities; they are Creatures, created by God.
They are comparable in relationship to humans, as pointed out in that verse above: “I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren”
Are Angels Male, Female, or both?
Angels, being spirits, do not belong to any specific Sex; however, they always appeared as being Male in Gender when presenting themselves before humans.
The Greek word “Aggelos” (mentioned earlier) is in the masculine form.
Also, “he/him/his” is always used when referring to angels in the Bible; never “she/her/hers” or “it/its”.
Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer, the only angels named in the Bible, had male names.
Despite this, angels are not able to reproduce like humans can, thus, they are likely neither Male nor Female.
(Mark 12:25) For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
Angels likely appeared as males to give a more commanding appearance. A male form was probably just better suited for their various circumstances of appearing before people.
What do Angels look like?
As we already know, angels are spirits and we cannot see them normally. However, what do they actually look like when they appear before us in “Human form”?
Angels can sometimes appear as regular humans, with no features distinguishing them from a regular man. In these cases, the angels are probably purposely putting themselves in disguise, so that people won’t know that they are angels.
In “Genesis:18”, Abraham welcomed three guests into his home, who appeared to be normal men; they were however, actually angels.
Soon after, in “Genesis:19”, two angels came into the city of Sodom, where Lot greeted them. These angels also appeared as regular men to everyone.
Apart from the very human-like disguise angels can come in, what can be considered to be the “Real” Visible form of angels, looks quite different in several ways.
(Daniel 10:5) Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz:
(Daniel 10:6) His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
(Matthew 28:2) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
(Matthew 28:3) His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
(Luke 24:4) And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
“Daniel 10:5-6” is probably the most detailed description of an angel in the Bible.
The face of an angel is usually Extremely Bright; so much so that it probably can’t be looked at with our eyes. Their faces are as bright as lightning, their eyes, radiating like fire.
Angels likely appeared to be clothed with valuable gems and precious metals.
The voice of an angel probably sounds commanding and mighty, like an army of one thousand men.
Ironically, people today refer to the “Voice of an Angel” as being very Soft, Serene, Beautiful and Gentle; it is likely quite the opposite, yet still, Marvelous.
Most people believe that angels have Wings, a Halo of light over their heads, and so forth.
The Bible doesn’t mention angels having any of these characteristics.
Seraphim and Cherubim however, do have wings, but they are likely not angels, but another type of spiritual creature. I will talk a little more about these two, later on.
Angels have greater Wisdom and Power than man.
Great Wisdom:
(2 Samuel 14:20) To fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.
Power:
(Matthew 28:2) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
(Acts 5:19) But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,
(2 Peter 2:11) Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
Angels are ranked “Higher” than man.
In God’s heirachy (Him being at the top), angels are considered “Higher” than human beings, including Jesus Christ “before his resurrection”, when he was a man like us.
(Hebrews 2:7) Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands:
Number of Angels
The number of Angels in existence is likely very large.
The Bible does not state exactly how many angels exist, however, we have some clues.
(Luke 2:13) And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Multitude simply means “A large number”.
There were a lot of Angels praising God before the shepherds, at the time of Jesus’ birth.
So there are many angels in existence, not just a few.
Let us then have a look at Daniel 7:10:
(Daniel 7:10) A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
10,000 x 10,000 = 100 Million
It is unlikely that David could number the amount of angels that he saw, but we can fairly conclude that he saw an Immense and Uncountable number of angles.
There are quite possibly over 100 Million angels in existence, enough that no one person can count them all.
(Job 25:3) Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?
Here, Job is asking: “Can God’s army (angels) be numbered?”
He is suggesting that the number of angels is so great that they are uncountable.
These verses support this also:
(Matthew 26:53) Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
(Hebrews 12:22) But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
Where do Angels live?
Let’s have a look at what the Bible says about the dwelling place of angels.
(Mark 12:25) For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
This verse points out that angels live in heaven. That is their natural dwelling place.
As we know, angels have come into contact with humans many times throughout history. This suggests that angels can travel to and from earth.
(Genesis 28:12) And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
In this verse, Jacob has a dream. Not a regular dream, but a divine vision.
He saw what looked like angels ascending and descending between Heaven and Earth.
This verse helps us confirm that angels to travel between the heavenly and earthly realms.
Now, where are angels located on this earth?
Are they all bunched up inside various churches?
Do they have their own special location where they hang out together?
It is likely that angels are “Everywhere”; all around us, day by day.
(2 Kings 6:17) And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
In the above verse, Elisha was being pursued by the Syrian army.
His servant was fearful of the large number of surrounding enemies. Elisha prayed that the servant could see that he was being protected by God’s forces.
God opened his eyes spiritually, so that he was able to see the Spirit Realm.
He saw that the mountains around him were full of Angles on fiery chariots all over.
If we too could see the spirit realm, we would likely be able to see that angels are all around us; in our homes, schools, workplaces and anywhere else that they can assist us.
Limitations of Angels
Even though Angels have great wisdom and knowledge, they are not “All knowing” as God is.
(Matthew 24:36) But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Although Angels have great power, they are not “All Powerful”.
(Daniel 10:13) But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
In the verse above, Gabriel (a high ranking angel) was sent to deliver a message to Daniel.
He was delayed by 21 days, because of problems he encountered, battling against the “Prince of Persia” (likely a powerful Demon Spirit who influenced Persian Empire).
That Demon was possibly as strong as, or stronger than Gabriel, however Michael the Archangel is more powerful than both of them.
Thus, angels have varying power.
Although Angels are Invisible, they still need to navigate through this earth like we do. They are not “Everywhere” or Omnipresent; neither can they Teleport.
This is also illustrated in (Daniel 10:13) above.
Satan, being a fallen angel, also has similar limitations like other angels.
(Job 1:7) And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
Satan is not Omnipresent, he must travel, or walk, or fly, up and down the earth.
So sometimes when we feel like we are under the attack of Satan, we may be actually under the attack of one of his Demons; they help him carry out his wicked plans.
Although Angles are ranked “Higher” than humans, one day in the future, redeemed man (Sons of God), will be exalted above the angels.
(1 Corinthians 6:3) Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
Paul is saying in this verse, that one day we will “Judge Angels”; be in a position of power over them.
Angels were likely NOT created in the image of God like man was. Also, they are not redeemed by Christ.
Humans were created in a “more special” way than angels. We Christians have been given unique qualities over angels, which will take fruit for us in the future.
3) Archangels
In today’s world, many people think of Archangels as high-ranking angels.
Some angels often referred to as Archangels are: Michael, Gabriel, Lucifer, Raphael and Uriel. (The last 2 names do not appear in the KJV Bible)
The word “Archangel” occurs only twice in the Bible. Let us have a look at these verses.
(Jude 1:9) Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
Jude 1:9 says “Michael the archangel”. So far, we can see that Michael is called an archangel in the Bible.
(1 Thessalonians 4:16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
This verse is saying, that when Christ returns, he will shout with the voice of “The Archangel”.
You may notice that “Archangel” is always preceded by “The”.
This indicates that there is probably only one archangel; and the only one actually named as an archangel, is Michael.
Michael is the top-ranking angel amongst God’s heavenly hosts.
Gabriel and Lucifer, although referred to as high-ranking angels, are never called archangels in the Bible.
There aren’t many outlined differences between The Archangel and Angels, however, the Bible tells us that Michael is more powerful than the other angels, and he has various special roles in God’s plan.
(Revelation 12:7) And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
(Revelation 12:8) And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
(Revelation 12:9) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Michael will defeat Satan twice.
He already did once, when he cast Lucifer (Satan) out of heaven unto earth, when Lucifer tried to contest himself with God. (Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:11-19)
He will be defeated again in the End Times, at the Final Battle between Good and Evil. (Revelation 12:4, 7-9).
One other thing I want to note, is that some people believe that Jesus Christ is really Michael the Archangel (in a human form, when on earth).
There is actually a lot of compelling support in the scriptures that lead to this conclusion.
At the moment, I don’t fully accept this theory. However I am always willing to learn the Truth of God’s word, even if it means abandoning my current beliefs.
Maybe I will one day, when I am more mature in understanding God’s word, I may come to this same conclusion, or maybe I won’t.
4) High Ranking Angels
Gabriel
Gabriel is considered to be one of the high-ranking angels in God’s kingdom.
He has many special missions and his main purpose is to deliver Important Messages to God’s people.
He revealed the future to Daniel:
(Daniel 8:16) And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.
(Daniel 9:21) Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
He told Zacharias about the birth of John the Baptist:
(Luke 1:19) And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.
He announced the coming birth of Jesus Christ to Mary (Luke 1:26-38):
(Luke 1:26) And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
Since Gabriel is one of only three Angels named in the Bible, and since he is given very important and special missions, he is considered to be one of God’s high ranking angels.
Lucifer
Even though Lucifer (Satan) usually isn’t referred to as being an angel, he actually is one.
Lucifer is a fallen angel, whom was cast out of heaven by Michael and his angels, for trying to exalt himself over God.
(Isaiah 14:12) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
The word “Lucifer” in the above verse, comes from the Hebrew word “Haylel”, which means “Morning star”.
הילל | hêylêl | hay-lale’
the morning star: – lucifer.
Lucifer is also known as “The Angel of Light” or “Bringer of Light”.
He was known for his great pride in himself, and he tried to compare himself with God almighty.
Lucifer is referred to Satan or the Devil after his fall, his loss in rank from heaven.
Please note, that the verses I mentioned from Isaiah 14 & Ezekiel 28 are somewhat figurative.
They describe another real-life event, concerning the fall of the King of Babylon and the Prince of Tyre (respectively).
However, these verses are widely accepted as being references to the fall of Lucifer; they paint the best picture we have of that heavenly war long ago.
Raphael and Uriel
Although not named in the King James Version of the Bible (the most common version), Raphael and Uriel appear several times in other ancient Christian writings, as high ranking angels of God.
Raphael is known as “The Angel of Healing”.
Uriel is known as the “Light of God” or “Fire of God”.
Because they do not appear in the KJV of the Bible does not mean that they are fictitious, they can very well be existing high-ranking angels.
5) Guardian Angels
It is common to hear the term “Guardian Angels” in modern times.
Many people believe that each person or each Christian is assigned a Guardian angel to watch over and guide them on the right path through life.
So what does the Bible say about Guardian Angels?
(Matthew 18:10) Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
“Matthew 18:10” somewhat suggests that we may each have our own angel in heaven.
(Psalms 91:11) For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
The Bible doesn’t actually state that each person has a Guardian Angel, however we are told that God has given his angels the responsibility of looking over us, taking care of us.
The protection by angels only applies to those who follow God’s word.
God promises us in his word, that those who stay close to him, keeping God in their hearts, shall receive his protection and blessings.
(Psalms 91:1) He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
(Psalms 91:2) I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
(Psalms 91:3) Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
(Psalms 91:4) He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
(Psalms 91:5) Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
So keep your heart and mind on God and you shall be guarded and guided by his angels.
6) Identifying Good and Bad Angels
Throughout this teaching, my references to Angels has mostly been about the Good or Holy angels, those who stand on the side of God.
However, there are also Fallen Angels, also known as Demons.
As mentioned before, these are the angels that were kicked out of heaven, along with Lucifer.
Approximately one-third of the angels are unholy.
(Revelation 12:4) And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
Good Angels are known as “Holy Angels” or “Elect Angels”.
These are the angels that chose to stay on the side of God, and follow his commandments.
(Matthew 25:31) When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
(Mark 8:38) Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
(1 Timothy 5:21) I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
Then there are the Bad Angels, which are known as “Fallen Angels”, “Demons” or “Devils”:
(Matthew 25:41) Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
(2 Peter 2:4) For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
(Jude 1:6) And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
(Revelation 12:9) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
I did not talk much about demons in this teaching, because I will cover that topic in detail in a later teaching.
However, I would like to point out some ways in which you can identify between a Good or Bad Angel, if one ever reveals themselves to you.
1) Know and understand the Bible scriptures, the Word of God, well.
You can expect a Good (Holy) Angel to speak the Truth to you, while a Bad Angel will likely Lie to you.
There is no such thing as “Angels can only speak the truth”. Just as Satan is a liar, so are his demons (fallen angels).
God is the only being that is NOT able to lie.
(Galatians 1:8) But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
“Galatians 1:8” is saying that if an angel speaks to you false doctrine, things that go against God’s word, then do not listen to it.
It may appear to be a good angel, since both good and bad angels may look the same (and we never saw either of them ourselves, to be able to note differences); however, if what it says is not accurate according to the word of God, then you can assume that the angel is a demon.
2) Test the Spirit.
Even though as I said above, a demon is likely to lie and try to trick you, there is a way to Test if the angel is holy or not.
(1 John 4:1) Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
(1 John 4:2) Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
(1 John 4:3) And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
(1 Corinthians 12:3) Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
So we can gather from the verses above that:
a) A Holy Angel WILL confess Jesus Christ as Lord, and that God raised him from the grave, to Heaven.
b) A Fallen Angel will NOT confess Jesus Christ as Lord, instead they will Curse the name of Jesus.
So if you are ever in the situation of meeting an angel, and you are not sure if to trust it or not, then ask it “Who is Jesus Christ?”.
3) Discerning of Spirits – Gift of the Holy Spirit
One of the Gifts you get from being born again in Christ, one of the Nine Manifestations of the Holy Spirit, is Discerning of Spirits.
(1 Corinthians 12:10) To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
As Christians, we should be able to inherently “sense” the difference between a Holy Angel and a Demon.
God knows that demons will try to influence people’s lives. They may not come before us face-to-face, but they will try to sway our thinking towards the side of evil.
Because of this, God has provided us with the ability to tell Good from Evil, even though Evil can be disguised as the Truth sometimes.
Not every Christian is able to discern spirits initially; however, by strengthening yourself by learning more and more of God’s word, and by building up your Spirit via speaking much in tongues, you will eventually be able to perform Discerning of Spirits, and all of the other Nine Manifestations of the Holy Spirit.
4) Fearsome vs Scary
Even though Good and Bad angels can appear to look the same, there may be a difference that you’ll feel when standing in the presence of one.
It is well known that Angels are Awesome and Magnificent beings. They command immediate Respect, and even Fear, when appearing before people.
Have a look at some of the verses below, when Holy Angels appeared before humans:
(Matthew 28:2) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
(Matthew 28:3) His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
(Matthew 28:4) And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
(Matthew 28:5) And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
(Luke 1:11) And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
(Luke 1:12) And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
(Luke 1:13) But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
(Luke 2:9) And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
(Luke 2:10) And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
In mostly all cases, people become afraid when they encounter angels. They are so mighty, that their appearance strikes respect and fear into the hearts of mortals.
These Holy Angels usually need to reassure people, saying “Fear not”.
Now, we would expect Fallen angels to be pretty fearsome as well; they probably are, but more to the point that they are “Scary”!
Let’s look at these verses that describe when Eliphaz, a close friend of Job, encountered a fallen angel:
(Job 4:12) Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.
(Job 4:13) In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
(Job 4:14) Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
(Job 4:15) Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:
(Job 4:16) It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,
A demon visited Eliphaz, at around 1:00-2:00 AM in the morning, when others are in a deep sleep.
Eliphaz became very afraid. His bones shook, and the hair on his skin rose.
It was a more chilling and frightening experience, compared to being “Blown away by the Awesomeness” of Holy angels.
This demon played mind games with Eliphaz, trying to get him to affect Job negatively as well.
Of course though, the demon tried to present his words as truth to Eliphaz.
So in my opinion, a Holy Angel will most likely appear as being Awe-Inspiring, while a Fallen Angel will appear to be Scary.
7) Other Heavenly Beings
The Bible mentions that there are “Heavenly Hosts”:
(Luke 2:13) And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Is this only referring to Angels? Not necessarily.
Two other heavenly hosts we know about are the Seraphim and Cherubim.
Seraphim
Seraph (Singular) – Seraphim (Plural)
Seraphim have Six Wings. Two wings cover their faces, two cover their feet, and two are used for flying.
(Isaiah 6:2) Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
(Revelation 4:8) And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.
Cherubim
Cherub (Singular) – Cherubim (Plural)
Cherubim have four faces; a face of a Man, an Ox, aLion and an Eagle.
The Ox-face is considered its “true face”, since later on in “Ezekiel 10:14” the ox-face is called “a Cherub’s face”.
Cherubim also have four conjoined wings, ox/calf-like feet, and human-like hands beneath their wings. They are also covered with eyes all over their bodies, and are around 15 feet tall in height.
(Ezekiel 1:10) As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.
(Ezekiel 10:1) Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.
(Ezekiel 10:5) And the sound of the cherubims’ wings was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh.
(Ezekiel 10:8) And there appeared in the cherubims the form of a man’s hand under their wings.
(Ezekiel 10:12) And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes round about, even the wheels that they four had.
(Ezekiel 10:14) And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.
(1 Kings 6:26) The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.
I will talk in more detail about Demons, Seraphim and Cherubim in a later teaching, since this teaching is focused on Angels.
I hope that this teaching gave you a better understanding about Angels and what they do.
Thanks for reading! 😀
God Bless You!
