Blind leading the blinds 🤧 to the pit

Israeli Health Ministry vaccination advisory committee member and deputy chief of Israel's biggest hospital Professor Arnon Afek is telling the public to prepare not only to take their fourth "booster" shot but also their fifth, sixth and seventh.

GPs key in deciding which Covid-19 patients need closer supervision

General practitioners will, from to-day, play a bigger role in deciding which Covid-19 patients require closer supervision, and which ones can safely recover at home.

These changes are part of a "broader shift towards personal re-sponsibilityand self-management", the Ministry of Health (MOH) said  in a statement yesterday. The shift comes amid growingev-idence that the new Omicron vari-ant, although more transmissible, is less severe.

Under the latest changes, people who are considered low risk and have only mild symptoms will be told to self-isolate at home for 72 hours, and will be allowed to leave their residence once they testnega-tiveatthe end ofthis time period. They will also be given a medical

certificate for five days, which will give them time for their symptoms toresolve.

If their symptoms do not im-prove, they should go back to the doctor.

Their close contacts will receive health risk warnings and will have to monitor their health for seven days, taking antigen rapid tests on the first and seventh day.

They will also have to take such tests when they wish to go out in the intervening period.

In contrast, those who are con-sidered to be at higher risk-such as the elderly, pregnant and im-munocompromised individuals, as wellas those with significant symp-toms-will have to take both rapid tests and polymerase chain reac-tion tests.

If they test positive, they will be issued isolation orders for 10 or 14 days, depending on their vaccina-tion status.

"Our primary care doctors will be key, as we allow patients to re-cover at home and avoid hospitali-sation,"MOH said.

The ministry added that it will monitor the situation in the com-ing weeks and make further adjust-ments in order to allow more peo-ple to recover under the shorter 72-hour isolation protocol.

"To be Covid resilient, we must ride the Omicron wave as another rite of passage, just as we have

done for Delta," Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said at a virtual press conference yesterday.

"At the end of the next wave, we will be even more resilient than now, and wewill have achieved another milestone. Then it is possible that we ride sub-sequent waves of Covid-19 just like we do for influenza every year, without major issues."  ~ linettel@sph.com.sg

Dirctor of medical services Ken-neth Mak said a worst-case sce. nario may see Singapore recording as many as 15,000 cases a day at the peak of the Omicron wave, as he urged people to take their booster jab when it is offered to them.

The number of Omicron cases in

Singapore has risen, with 1.281 such cases in the past week. of these, 233 are local cases, which make up 18 per cent of the local cases in the last week, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) yesterday.

The weekly Covid-19 infection growth rate yesterday was 1.28, up from 1.09 on Tuesday.

The rate refers to the ratio of community cases for the past week over the week before, and a rate that is more than one shows the number of new weekly Covid-19 cases is still increasing.

MOH yesterday reported 8o5 new Covid-19 cases, of which 440 were Omicron cases. These com-

A labor protest at Hong Lim Park is organized on the 16th January 2022 to protest against tyranny of the State. We will march from Hong Lim Park and all the way to the Parliament house. We only demand the removal of all discriminatory policies based on vaccination status in Singapore. Singaporeans from all walks of life are encouraged to join and give support to our fellowSingaporeans, who are discriminated against in their workplace simply for exercising their right not to get vaccinated. You do not need to be afraid of being arrested as there are only 17k SPF officers in Singapore against at least 52k angry and unemployed Singaporeans. If some Singaporeans don't get to work, then all Singaporeans don't get to work. Fight on my fellow Singaporeans. May God bless the free and the brave.
