Saviour 救 主

  In the Bible, the word Saviour simply means “someone who saves someone else.”

In the Old Testament, God is frequently referred to as the Saviour, rescuing His people from all kinds of danger

Deuteronomy 32:15;

 "But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked;you grew fat, stout, and sleek; then he forsook God who made him and scoffed at the Rock of his salvation.

1 Chronicles 16:35;

Say also: "Save us, O God of our salvation,and gather and deliver us from among the nations,that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.

 Psalm 18:46;

 The Lord lives, and blessed be my rock,and exalted be the God of my salvation

Psalm 38:22.

Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!

 What does Jesus rescue us from?

And what does He rescue us for?

Why?

How?

When?

Where?

Who?

To understand Jesus’ role as Saviour, we must understand our own desperate situation.

Humans have sinned against God, rebelling, and voluntarily separating themselves from the God of life (Romans 3:23; 5:12). (for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God) (Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned —)

Sin produces death, and so everything in our world is now dying (Romans 6:23; James 1:15). (For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.)(Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.)

Because God is holy, He will punish sin, leading to eternal separation from Him (Matthew 10:28). (And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.)

Without Jesus Christ, humans are helplessly enslaved by sin and cannot ever achieve holiness on their own (Romans 3:9–20). (⁹ What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin,

¹⁰ as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;

¹¹ no one understands;no one seeks for God.

¹² All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;no one does good,not even one."

¹³ "Their throat is an open grave;they use their tongues to deceive.""The venom of asps is under their lips."

¹⁴ "Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness."

¹⁵ “Their feet are swift to shed blood;

¹⁶ in their paths are ruin and misery,

¹⁷ and the way of peace they have not known.”

¹⁸ “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. ²⁰ For by works of the law no human being[c] will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.)

We were born on a one-way track to hell, rightly condemned for our sin (Ephesians 2:1–3). (¹ And you were dead in the trespasses and sins ² in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience — ³ among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.)

That is where Jesus steps in.

Being God, Jesus is perfect and never sinned.

He lived a perfectly righteous life, and therefore did not deserve to die (2 Corinthians 5:21). (For our sake He(The Father) made him (Son of God) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him (Jesus Christ)we might become the righteousness of God.)

However, He chose to die a horrific death on the cross for us, paying the price for our sin (Romans 6:23; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 2:2). (For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.);(He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.);(He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.)

Then He rose again three days later, establishing His victory, and He is coming back soon to remove evil from the world completely.

Because of His death and resurrection, anyone who trusts in Him can have eternal life.

To the person who trusts in Him, Jesus Christ becomes the Saviour.

If you are a human being, you needed rescuing. Jesus came to save you.

He saves us from sin by forgiving our sins (Luke 19:10; Acts 10:42–43; 1 Timothy 1:15). (For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.) ; (⁴² And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. ⁴³ To him all the prophets bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.) ; (The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.)

He saves us from God’s righteous punishment by justifying us with His blood (Romans 5:9). (Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.)

He saves us from death by giving us eternal life.

He saves us from the degradation of the world by separating, empowering, and sanctifying us (Titus 3:3–8). (³ For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. ⁴ But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, ⁵ he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, ⁷ so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. ⁸ The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.)

He saves us from the devil, who deceives the world (1 John 3:8). (Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.)

For all these reasons and more, Jesus is rightfully worshiped as the Savior of the world (John 4:42; 1John 4:14). (They said to the woman, "It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.") ; (And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.)

Jesus did not simply save us from something, He saved us for something.

He saved us for a relationship with God, who loves us (John 3:16–18; Romans 5:10). (¹⁶ "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. ¹⁸ Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.) ; (For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.)

By saving us from our sins, Jesus made reconciliation with God possible, allowing us to approach God as our heavenly Father (2 Corinthians 5:18–21; Hebrews 4:16). (¹⁸ All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; ¹⁹ that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. ²⁰ Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. ²¹ For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.);(Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.)

By His grace, and not by our works, we are saved for an eternity with God, worshiping Him, enjoying Him, and being loved by Him forever (Ephesians 2:5–10). (⁵ even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved — ⁶ and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, ⁷ so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. ⁸ For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, ⁹ not a result of works, so that no one may boast. ¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.)

Jesus’ death and resurrection make all these things possible, demonstrating that He is the Saviour of the world.

But is He YOUR Saviour?

God makes it clear that we can only be saved by trusting in His Son (John 14:6). (Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.)

No other person, philosophy, or work can reconcile us to our holy Creator.

When we submit to the truth of Jesus Christ, confessing our sin and trusting Him, we receive eternal life, an intimate relationship with God, and grace to cover all our sins, past, present, and future.

If you have not trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, come to Him today.

He is gracious, regardless of your past (2 Timothy 3:3–5). (³ heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, ⁴ treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, ⁵ having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.)

Believe in Him and trust Him for salvation.

What are you waiting for?

¹⁰ 正如经上所记:“没有义人,连一个也没有;

¹¹ 没有明白的,没有寻求神的;

¹⁵ “他们的脚飞快地奔跑,去流人的血;
